Powered For Success.
Leadership Program
Our Powered for Success is a STEM-Inspired Leadership Program that provides disadvantaged youth with educational and social opportunities, and inspire young minds in the world of technology and the arts. We use STEM Initiatives, counseling and character building strategies to help the youth achieve academic, social and workforce success.
We host monthly mentoring sessions & workshops at 21st Century learning spaces where at-risk youth can learn the essential skills that will help them succeed in school, their careers and in life. Our sessions cater to children and young people (11-17 years old and 18-24 years old).
Program Components:
Mentorship.
Our mentoring component focuses on positive youth development and creating a flexible, but structured mentoring system where the interests of at-risk youth are emphasized. Our tasks as mentors are to help at-risk youth:
Academic Building.
Our Powered for Success program focuses on academic building and working with local schools and other non-profit organizations to help:
Life Skills Development.
Our Powered for Success program helps at-risk youth understand the importance of making good decisions and developing good habits. Life is full of transitions, and students and young adults need guidance making the right choices at crucial stages during those transitions. The challenges that at-risk youth face today are tougher than at any time in history: academic stress, parent communication, media bombardment, dating, abuse, bullying, addictions, depression, and peer pressure, just to name a few. The choices at-risk youth make while navigating these challenges can make or break their futures
Counseling & Mental Health Education.
Our Powered for Success program provides counseling services and mental health education. We have collaborated with mental health professionals to offer support groups and individual counseling for at-risk youth and their families. We aim to foster self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. We help at-risk youth to develop socially acceptable learned behavior that enables a person to interact effectively with others and to avoid socially unacceptable responses. We have informal therapy talk sessions and workshops to promote mental health education and to help end the stigma around mental illness in minority communities.
3 Tier Empowerment System.
The J.F. Holder Foundation uses a 3-Tier Empowerment System to help at-risk youth meet their personal, educational and social needs.
